This Wood Shorty is shaped for surfers who enjoy mushy waves and the fast down the line surfing of the 70´s.
Smaller and weaker waves can be surfed well due to the width of the
board and the large rails. The flat Scoop-Rocker-line facilitates high

Why Balsa?
The core of our surfboards, and therefore their main element, is Balsa wood (Ocroma Pyramidale).
Balsa has been used as a transport
float in South America 1000 years before the bad ass Inka Empire. This plant is
one of the fastest growing species, reaching a height of up to 10 meter
and a diameter of 20-25 cm within 3-4 years.
The wood for each board is carefully cut, book matched, and laid out to deliver maximum artistic impact.
And the boards surf great too!
"Balsa wood is a fast growing, sustainable and recyclable raw
material, producing no toxic substances. Therefore it can safely be
said, that the use of Balsa is a sustainable method of producing
surfboard blanks."

Balsa Production?
Since our balsa wood surfboards are exclusively handmade, the production
process requires approximately six times as long as it takes to
produce a conventional foam board.
The process begins with the
sowing of the balsa seeds in Don Zandoval´s greenhouse and three months
later continues with the planting between bananas, yucca and beans. It
takes 3-4 years before the trees have grown to the sufficient height for
harvesting. After they have been sliced into blocks they are
transported by eco donkey. In the local climate of Ecuador the wooden blocks dry in about 2-3
months.
