Ok, let's just back up for a moment.
What the hell is a surfboard kit?
Well, did you ever put together a model airplane when you were young?
Ok, now you get it. This is the model airplane of surfboards!
Well, did you ever make something with your hands and then ride it?
Believe me, it's rad!
Inspiration, apart from beauty, is to turn to a more environmentally friendly method which uses fast growing plantation wood such as Paulownia, Cedar, Spruce, Redwood, and of course Balsa.
Our method descended from the 1930's Tom Blake paddle-boarding method which favors a central stringer, with individually shaped transverse ribs, covered with a skin and lastly, rails which are then shaped.
Old school baby. You want to know more, you say?
Our modern interpretation of Tom Blake's work is the perimeter stringer method utilizing laminated rails as stringers, which are connected with a series of plywood ribs.
This skeleton is subsequently sheathed with thick wood strips, forming a fast hollow board with better flex properties and giving you a sick ride.
Once you shape it out you need to seal it up with a coat of resin and fiberglass (or bamboo).
How cool is that, putting together your own board eco style just like the OG surfers of the past.
It's a great project and there is nothing like surfing your own personally made board. So, here is how you do it.
