Remember Your First Surfboard?

My first one was called a Crazy Horse.

You got a new surfboard—am I right?

I can’t think of anything more enjoyable than buying a new surfboard—except maybe having sex. In fact, if I could have sex with my surfboard I probably would. I know that might sound a little sick, but I got to be honest.

You likely dropped at least $500 bones on that new stick and right now you are thinking about how to cover that beauty, how to protect it and make it last.

I remember my first surfboard, it was called a Crazy Horse and I didn’t have a board bag for it. I bought it from my friend Dave’s older brother, it had one fin and was something like 7’6. I don’t even remember how I got the money to pay for it, maybe from a summer of mowing lawns—yea, that must have been it.

Board bags Protect Your Valuable Stick—Wave Tribe Bags Made For the Clumsy Surfer

Shortboard Hemp Pioneer Eco Day BoardbagThat first surfboard of mine got beat up, dinged and punished by the sun as I was learning to surf. I wish I still had that surfboard and if I had it in a bag all those years it would have had a fighting chance to survive the elements.
Let’s get back to you and your new surfboard, or maybe you got an older one that needs a new safe, cool, hemp home.

Not all board bags are the same and what you should really be thinking about first is protection. Most board bags are padded and can offer some resistance from a knock against the wall or a hit from your little brother as he climbs inside your truck.

This is the main difference between a surfboard sock and a board bag. Most board bags have 3mm of padding, the Wave Tribe Pioneer bags 6mm of Rebound Foam Dynamics including open-to-nose technology.

I tend to be clumsy, so I designed our board bags with more padding than your sister’s push-up bra.

Hemp is a Damn ‘cool’ Fabric

Next your board bag should breathe enough to allow your surfboard to remain cool inside the love pocket you just bought for it. Wave Tribe bags are made from breathable hemp fabric, which keeps your board 10 degrees cooler than the normal plastic board bag.

We also realize that you might need to put your board in the straight sun on the way to the beach, either on top of your ride or in the back our your 4X4. We also understand that you might need to place your board in the direct sun while chilling next to your chick (or dude) on the beach in-between surf sessions.

For these reasons (and others that are obvious), we have constructed one side of the boardbag with a high density reflective alloy mesh. This high quality mesh helps protect your board bag on those hot days by deflecting the sun’s rays toward that kook down the beach who just made goggly eyes at your girl (or dude).

What You Buy Matters

Did you know it takes about 450 years just for one plastic bottle to break down? Here at Wave Tribe we want to reduce the plastic in our lives and products so we started using other more sustainable materials in our boardbags.

Save Our Earth

Yea, I know our bags are a little more expensive. But look, if your bag falls apart in a few months then you’ll have to buy another cheap ass plastic bag anyway. Why not spend a little more money and buy one that will last and that is better for the planet?

Longevity is the most eco part or our bag and not because of the rad hemp or stylish design but because we put Japanese YKK nickel platted zippers on every Wave Tribe Pioneer board bag.

Look, it’s happened to all of us. We got a sick board bag at a deep discount. It fits our surfboard perfectly and after a few months or a year the zipper sticks or break off in our hands. That board bag is now useless.

First of all Wave Tribe zippers won’t break—we guarantee it.

Second of all, if for some reason you zipper does break while you are zipping up your precious sleep we will replace your boardbag as fat as a John John right-handed punt.

So when you are done with your boardbag (well not for a long time we hope) you can just plant this bag in your garden! Hemp board bags protect your board (very important) and also protect the earth (that is cool too).

High Quality First—Radness For The Earth Second?

Yep, if it ain’t quality it ain’t eco—I don’t care if you can smoke it, plant it, or recycle it—it has got to last and do it’s job well.

That’s how we roll, though we are known as the eco surf dudes, really we are more about designing awesome quality that lasts for surfers that give a damn about their gear.

Side A of the bag is made from a strong density Rugged Eco Hemp exterior which is one tough fiber and naturally built to last with high impact padding protection with Rebound Foam Dynamics including open-to-nose technology.

Side B is the reflective (rental-car-roof-side) made from Reflective Energy Shield for "Cooler Surfboard Safeguard" protecting your surfboard from the sun's harmful rays made from an alloy-steel mesh weave.

All Sides
are guarded by our Japanese Never-Rust-or-Break Nickel Platted Zippers streamline zipper trails and our trademarked Easy Flow Zip System.

Ok, let's review: our day bags were created with these eco and quality objectives (designed for surfers by surfers):

  • Reduce plastic by using green ecological materials—stylish hemp.
  • Built to last with quality YKK nickel platted zippers, strong re-enforced seams.
  • Extra padding where it counts to protect your surfboard.
  • Designed for radness using hemp, embroidery, and multiple pockets.

Additionally we strengthened the top carry handle, adding heavy duty stitching along the handle and other stress points. We also use the best YKK zipper on the planet, then we nickel coated each zipper so they wouldn't rust.

So we know that buying a board bag isn't rocket science but you should buy one that WORKS and is SUSTAINABLE. (Doing the right thing is always a good thing.)  If you still need convincing that these are the best on the market then you should read the ESPN review that said our "boardbags are better."

They also said:

"the production of this board bag is better for the land, the durability causes less waste, and it's biodegradable nature is good for all of us."

If you want a deal, go shop for your board bag at Walmart or buy one online from some ranchy e-tailer that is slinging plastic cheap gear and won’t be in business when your shit breaks.

Wave Tribe on the other hand, has been around since the mid 2000’s and we aren’t going anywhere as long as you keep investing in our future together.
